Why the brand matters for a repair
Brands share platforms more than their badges suggest: Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, Inglis and most Kenmore laundry use the same drive and pump designs; LG and Samsung fridges have their own fan and defrost layouts; Bosch, Thermador and Gaggenau dishwashers share one pump and leak-protection system. Knowing the platform tells the technician which parts to bring and which faults are common, so more repairs finish on the first visit.
It also matters for the repair-or-replace call. Parts for a premium brand often stay available for ten years or more, so an older Miele or Sub-Zero is usually worth fixing; a budget machine may not justify a major repair after seven or eight years. The written finding spells that out for your model.
Model and serial numbers
Look inside the fridge door frame or on a side wall, around the door opening of a washer or dryer, on the edge of a dishwasher door, or behind the drawer or door of an oven. A photo of the label saves time on the visit.
