How to read an appliance error code
A code is the control board's shorthand for which test failed, not which part failed. "Drain" codes fire when water hasn't left the drum in the expected time, which can be a blocked filter, a kinked hose, a jammed pump or a failed pump. "Fill" codes mean the water level wasn't reached, so a closed tap counts as much as a dead valve. That's why the guides below pair each code with the cheap checks first.
Two habits save a lot of time. First, note the code exactly as shown, including letters and digits (E24 and E25 are different faults on a Bosch dishwasher). Second, after a one-minute power reset, see whether the code comes straight back, returns only during a certain stage, or never returns. Tell us which when you book.
