What we repair

  • Oven won't heat or heats unevenly
  • Temperature runs hot or cold
  • Gas burner won't light or keeps clicking
  • Element or burner dead
  • Door lock stuck after self-clean
  • Control and display faults

Repair or replace?

Elements, igniters, sensors and switches are typically worth repairing on most ranges. A cracked glass cooktop is costly to replace and the finding will price it against a new unit.

Northway doesn't sell appliances, so the recommendation is only about your machine. Most major brands are covered; units still under the manufacturer's warranty should go to the manufacturer first.

Common oven & range problems we fix

What each symptom usually means. The technician confirms the cause with tests before replacing anything, and the finding names the part.

Oven doesn't heat

A burnt-out bake element on electric ovens; a weak igniter on gas ovens is the most common cause of all. Read the full guide

Temperature is off

A temperature sensor that has drifted, a door gasket letting heat out, or an element that only partly works. Read the full guide

Gas burner won't light or keeps clicking

Wet or dirty igniters, a misaligned burner cap, or a stuck spark switch. Read the full guide

Electric burner doesn't heat

A burnt coil socket, a failed infinite switch, or a cracked radiant element under glass. Read the full guide

Induction zone doesn't detect the pan

The pan may not be magnetic or may be too small for the zone; otherwise a coil or power board fault. Read the full guide

Door stays locked after self-clean

The lock motor or its switch fails, often during a self-clean cycle. Let the oven cool fully before anything else. Read the full guide

Display dead or oven won't turn on

Tripped breaker, a failed control board or a blown internal fuse. Read the full guide

Shows an F-code or error

Most oven codes point to the temperature sensor, the door lock or a stuck key. Note the code and tell us when you book.

Repairs we do on oven & ranges

How a visit works

  1. You send a request. Your phone, email and the service address are all we need. Add the appliance and what's wrong if you like.
  2. A technician gets in touch. As soon as possible, by phone or text, to set a time that works for you.
  3. The technician diagnoses. They find the cause and write it down: what failed, the parts, labour and total price, and whether the repair is worth doing.
  4. You decide. Approve the written quote and the diagnostic is free: it comes off when the repair is completed. Say no, and you pay only the diagnostic ($89 + tax for a home electric appliance).

Oven & range repair questions

Do you repair gas stoves and ovens?

Yes, by licensed gas technicians. If you smell gas, don't light anything: leave and call Enbridge Gas or 911 from outside.

How much does oven or stove repair cost?

The diagnostic is free when you go ahead with the repair. If you decide not to, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance; or $149 + tax for a gas appliance. Either way, you get the full repair price in writing before any work.

Why does my gas oven take forever to preheat?

A weak igniter is the usual cause. It still glows, but not hot enough to open the gas valve quickly.

Can I use the cooktop if the oven isn't working?

Usually, if the cooktop works normally and there's no burning smell. If a breaker keeps tripping or you smell gas, stop using it.

Do you fix induction cooktops?

Yes. Tell us the brand and model so the technician can check part availability for the board or coil first.

Is self-clean bad for my oven?

The very high heat can stress door locks, sensors and control boards. Running it less often and wiping spills by hand reduces the risk.
