Why maintenance pays

Most appliance failures aren't random. A dryer vent fills with lint until the thermal fuse blows; a fridge condenser clogs until the compressor runs hot; a washer pump jams on a coin that was in the filter for months. Catching those takes minutes and costs nothing. Missing them costs a service visit, and sometimes the appliance.

These guides don't replace a repair when something has already failed; they're for keeping a working appliance working. If yours is showing a symptom now, start with the problem guides.

The three habits that matter most

  • Airflow: clean dryer vents and fridge coils. Heat kills parts.
  • Filters: washer pump filter, dishwasher filter, fridge water filter. Blockages cause most "not draining" and "not cooling" calls.
  • Load and level: don't overload, keep washers level, don't slam doors. Mechanical wear is predictable.
