Dishwashers
Dishwasher door won't latch or close
If the door won't catch, the dishwasher won't run. The latch, the strike or a rack in the way are the usual causes.

Safe checks before you book
- Rack position. Push the racks fully in; a rack wheel off its track blocks the door.
- Strike plate. Check the catch on the tub for damage.
- Door hinges and springs. A door that drops open hard may have broken springs.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.
What usually causes it
| Door latch assembly | Includes the switch; replaced as a unit. |
|---|---|
| Strike | Bent or loose. |
| Door springs or cables | Worn out on older units. |
When to stop and call
Never bypass the latch switch.

What the visit costs
The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance, or $149 + tax for a gas appliance.
