Ovens, ranges & cooktops

Oven or range completely dead

No display, no clock, nothing: start with the power supply. A range uses a double breaker, and half can trip.

Safe checks before you book

  1. Breaker. Reset the range's double breaker fully off and on.
  2. Clock or lock. Some ovens won't operate until the clock is set after a power cut.
  3. Gas ranges. They still need electricity for the igniters and controls.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.

What usually causes it

Power supply or terminal blockA burnt connection at the back.
Thermal fuseOn some models.
Control board or transformerNo power to the display.

When to stop and call

A burning smell from the back of the range. Switch off the breaker.
