Dishwasher smells bad

Most smells come from trapped food in the filter and sump, or water sitting in a drain hose that loops the wrong way.

Safe checks before you book

  1. Filter. Remove and scrub it.
  2. Run a hot empty cycle. With a dishwasher cleaner.
  3. Drain hose loop. The hose should rise high under the counter to stop sink water flowing back.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.

What usually causes it
