Safe checks before you book
- Log the temperature. Note the reading and the time now and again in an hour. Is it rising steadily, or swinging?
- The door. Check the gasket, the strip curtain and the closer. A door that doesn't close by itself lets warm air pour in, especially during service.
- The evaporator inside. Look at the coil unit near the ceiling. Fans should be turning. A coil covered in ice points to a defrost or airflow problem.
- The condensing unit outside. If it is on a roof or wall, check it is running and the coil isn't blocked with leaves, cottonwood or snow.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.
What usually causes it
| Iced evaporator | Defrost heater, timer or drain-line heater faults, or a door left open. |
|---|---|
| Fan motors | A failed evaporator or condenser fan. |
| Dirty condenser coil | Restricted airflow outside raises pressures and cuts capacity, especially in summer. |
| Refrigerant or controls | Leaks, valves or controls. Refrigerant work is done by a certified refrigeration technician. |
When to stop and call
Product above safe temperature: move what you can to other refrigeration and call. Tell us your opening hours and where the units are when you book.

What the visit costs
The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $149 + tax per commercial unit.
