Washers
Washer won't start or turn on
Start with power and the door or lid. A surprising share of 'dead washer' calls are a locked control panel or a tripped outlet.

Safe checks before you book
- Outlet and breaker. Plug a lamp into the outlet. Reset GFCI outlets in laundry rooms.
- Control lock. Many washers have a child lock; the manual shows how to release it (often holding two buttons).
- Door or lid. Close firmly; listen for the lock or switch.
- Delay start. Make sure a delay start isn't set.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.
What usually causes it
| Door lock or lid switch | The washer won't start without a confirmed closed door. |
|---|---|
| Control board or user interface | Dead display or unresponsive buttons. |
| Power cord or internal fuse | Less common; tested on the visit. |
When to stop and call
A burning smell or tripping breaker. Leave it unplugged and book.

What the visit costs
The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance, or $149 + tax for a gas appliance.
