Washers
Washer won't fill, or fills slowly
If the washer hums but no water comes in, or it trickles, the problem is usually on the water side before it is the washer's electronics.

Safe checks before you book
- Taps fully open. Check both hot and cold taps behind the washer.
- Hose screens. Turn off the taps, unscrew the hoses at the washer and look for small screens. Rinse out grit or scale.
- Kinked hoses. Pushing the washer back can kink the hoses.
- Lid or door. Some washers won't fill if they don't detect the lid closed.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.
What usually causes it
| Clogged inlet screens | Common in homes on well water or after water-main work. |
|---|---|
| Water inlet valve | A solenoid that fails electrically or mechanically. |
| Pressure switch or water level sensor | The washer thinks it is already full. |
| Lid switch or control | Blocks the fill when it shouldn't. |
When to stop and call
Water keeps filling and won't stop. Turn off both taps right away.

What the visit costs
The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance, or $149 + tax for a gas appliance.
