Washers

Washer stops partway through a cycle

Where it stops matters: stopping with water in the drum points to draining, stopping during fill points to water supply, and random stops point to the control or a sensor.

Safe checks before you book

  1. Note where it stops. Fill, wash, drain or spin: write it down.
  2. Error code. Most modern washers display one.
  3. Unbalanced load. Some washers pause repeatedly to rebalance a heavy load.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.

What usually causes it

Draining faultBlocked pump or filter.
Water supplySlow fill makes the washer time out.
Door lock or lid switchLoses contact mid-cycle.
Motor or controlOverheating motor protectors or a failing board.

When to stop and call

Water won't drain and the door won't open. Don't force the door.

What the visit costs

The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance, or $149 + tax for a gas appliance.
