Refrigerator clicking but not cooling

Safe checks before you book

  1. Listen near the bottom back. A click, a short hum, then another click.
  2. Feel the temperature. Is the fridge warming?
  3. Clear the back. Make sure air can reach the condenser.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.

What usually causes it

Start relay or overloadInexpensive parts that fail more often than the compressor.
CompressorIf the relay is good, the compressor may be the problem; you get the price before any decision.
Defrost timerOn older models, a click when switching modes is normal.

When to stop and call

Warming food. Book as urgent.
