Water under or inside the fridge
Where the water appears tells you most of the story: under the crisper drawers, on the floor at the front, or behind the fridge near the wall.

Safe checks before you book
- Find the source. Dry everything, then put paper towel under the front edge, inside the crisper area and behind the unit. Check again after a few hours to see which gets wet first.
- Inside, under the drawers. Water collecting under the crispers usually means the defrost drain at the back of the freezer is blocked with ice or debris.
- Behind the fridge. If it has a water dispenser or ice maker, look at the thin supply line and its connection at the wall valve for drips. Turn the valve off if it is wet.
- Is it level?. A fridge that tilts forward can let condensation run out of the drain pan. The front should sit very slightly higher than the back.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.
What usually causes it
| Blocked defrost drain | The most common cause. The drain is cleared and checked, and the reason it froze (often a heater or a door gasket) is fixed. |
|---|---|
| Water inlet valve or supply line | A cracked valve or a loose compression fitting leaks only when the dispenser or ice maker fills. |
| Cracked drain pan | Rare, but a split pan under the fridge will drip after every defrost cycle. |
| Door seal | A gasket that doesn't seal lets humid air in, which ends up as water and frost inside. |
When to stop and call
Water near the electrical outlet, or a leak you can't stop at the supply valve. Unplug the fridge if it is safe to reach the plug, and book.

What the visit costs
The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance, or $149 + tax for a gas appliance.
