Refrigerators & freezers
Fridge runs all the time
Newer variable-speed fridges run for long stretches by design. A fridge that never stops and still isn't cold enough has a problem.

Safe checks before you book
- Coils. Dusty condenser coils make the compressor work harder.
- Door seals. A gasket that doesn't seal lets warm air in all day.
- Temperatures. If temperatures are normal, long run times may be normal for your model.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.
What usually causes it
| Dirty condenser | Simple cleaning helps. |
|---|---|
| Defrost problem | An iced coil cuts cooling, so it runs longer. |
| Failing fans or low refrigerant | Cooling capacity drops. |
When to stop and call
Running constantly and warming. Book.

What the visit costs
The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance, or $149 + tax for a gas appliance.
