Refrigerators & freezers
Fridge too cold or freezing food
Frozen lettuce and icy milk usually come from a setting, an air-flow problem near the vent, or a damper stuck open.

Safe checks before you book
- Settings. Check the dial or display. Around 3–4 °C is right for the fresh food section.
- Food near the vent. Items in front of the cold-air vent from the freezer freeze first. Move them.
- Measure. Use a thermometer in a glass of water on a middle shelf.
Unplug first. Switch off power (and close the water or gas supply where it applies) before looking behind or inside an appliance. If anything feels unsafe, stop and call.
What usually causes it
| Damper stuck open | Lets too much freezer air in. |
|---|---|
| Thermistor or thermostat | Reads warm, so the fridge keeps cooling. |
| Control board | Misreads or drives cooling continuously. |
When to stop and call
Not usually urgent; food quality is the concern.

What the visit costs
The diagnostic is free when you approve the repair and it's completed. You get the cause, the parts, labour and total in writing before any work. If you don't go ahead, it's $89 + tax for a home electric appliance, or $149 + tax for a gas appliance.
